Word on the street by Digitimes Research has led many to question as to whether or not Apple is working on making a mini iPad. If Apple will make a mini iPad(now available!), it will measure around 5 to 7 inches and may be out in the year 2011, priced below $400. So what would lead Apple to create yet another smaller sized gadget ?
The mini iPad’s purpose is to act as a smaller, more portable device specially created for those people constantly on the go, it is supposed to be on the same level as to compete with other ereader devices such as Barnes and Noble’s Nook as well as the Sony Reader and Amazon Kindle .
Will there be enough space in this crowded ebook reader market ?
It is predicted that maximum capacity will be reached in the ereader niche as many other devices will continue to flood the market in 2011. It doesn’t matter what’s already out there in the ereader niche, Apple is a well known brand and will likely make a huge impact.
What will the other ereader devices need to do in order to survive ?
The most current and well known ebook readers such as the Amazon Kindle, Nook e.t.c will have to keep innovating in order to stay current and compete in this cutthroat ereader device niche. Current leaders in the ereader market will have to look towards adapting new technology within their devices such as touch technology, high speed processors, color e-ink e.t.c if they intend to continue engaging readers, enriching their user experience as well as their overall reading experience.
Other ereaders will likely have a higher chance of survival by choosing to cater to their end user’s need instead of just trying to mimic the iPad. Those ereaders trying to be the next iPad mini or otherwise, will without doubt fail in differentiating themselves and remaining competitive through their own unique strengths.
